See iPhones that will not be getting iOS 16 update

At the Apple WWDC 2022 or Worldwide Developers Conference 2022, the company listed iPhones that will not be getting iOS 16 updates and they are: iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, and original (or first-gen) iPhone SE.

It is important to note that the affected devices have been in the market for about six to seven years (iPhone 6S was released in 2015). So, it is not quite surprising that Apple is leaving them out of this recent iOS update.

Thus, if you want to enjoy all the new functionalities of the iOS 16, you will need to have an iPhone 8 or newer device.

In comparison, Android phones rarely get more than three years of operating system updates before they are deemed old. Although, in recent years, Samsung and Google have increased the number of years that their midrange and flagship devices can stay up to date to about five years.

If your main smartphone is any of the listed outdated iPhones, it is time to start looking for a new device to use. You can check out a list of the most affordable 5G phones in the market here and make your choice.

The iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, and first iPhone SE will not just stop working immediately after iOS 16 launches but without security updates and patches, your device may be open to bugs, hacks and glitches. Also, after a year, some of the apps may have been revised for newer iPhones and may be inaccessible anymore. In addition, newer features, like the lock screen widgets in iOS 16, will not be available.
