Bandits strike again in Zamfara State and reportedly kill 50 people, injuring 31. According to reports, the attack by suspected bandits affected three communities in Zamfara over the weekend. These communities are Maru, Gusau and Birnin Magaji Local government areas of the state.
A witness reported that the attackers had arrived on motorcycles, overrunning the Magami district in Gusau LGA and displacing residents of several communities. One of the attacks took place while a naming ceremony was ongoing. This occurred in Kunkilai village on Saturday.
Clement Abiade, acting director, force information, Operation Sharan Daji, confirmed the attack. He also claimed some soldiers were injured while resisting the suspects. The bandits allegedly shot openly, killing scores.
The death toll is currently at 50. Clement Abiade added that they took the soldiers to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, for treatment. He noted that 31 people including some soldiers sustained injuries from the attack.
After the attack, the bandits retreated into the forest. They reportedly could apprehend the bandits due to the lack of security operatives.
Muhammed Shehu, the spokesman of the Zamfara police command, also confirmed the attack on Kunkilari. However, he maintained that the attack only saw 10 persons killed.

Just last Wednesday, there was an attack at the Government Girls Secondary School in Zurü local government area of the state. The raid also reportedly saw some of the girls kidnapped.
