When Niyi Akinmolayan’s “Elevator Baby” won AMVCA’s award for Best Actor and Actress in a drama at the 2020 AMVCA, film lovers were surprised that one film won two of the most coveted awards at the ceremony.
After watching this film I can say it deserved to win the awards as lead actor Timini Egbuson and Toyin Abraham nailed their roles as Damilare and Abigail.
Elevator Baby centers around Dami a spoilt rich kid only interested in squandering his late father’s wealth. His reckless lifestyle becomes an issue of concern to his mother played by Shaffy Bello. She decides to freeze his account as an attempt to help him come to his senses.
Dami begins to job hunt in order to assist himself as he is now broke. He goes to several interviews and he gets turned down because he lacks experience even though he has a first-class in Engineering.
It is in one such interview he meets Abigail a pregnant house help who came to meet her Madam and unfortunately does not meet her on sit. They get into a heated argument and while they are throwing words at each other, there is a power outage in the office building leaving both of them trapped in the elevator.
Abigail goes into labour and would need the assistance from Dami. Dami on the other hand would have to rely on his medical doctor stepfather who he hates to help with the delivery.

The director did a great job of infusing humour in this film. Animashaun Samuel Perry aka Broda Shaggi, the maintenance manager pulled his weight as well. The Elevator scene had a lot of suspense. Abigail had to confess that she has been in an affair with her boss for over six years.
Other supporting actors and actresses also did their best to deliver a good film. Thumbs up to Niyi Akomolayan and his team on this masterpiece. Elevator Baby is presently on Netflix, so visit the streaming platform to watch for yourself.
