Nigerian afrobeats star Rema has released the official video to his song “Bounce” and it’s unexpected as it is jarring.
The song is also the first time Rema would collaborate with legendary producer Don Jazzy and they predictably made a smash hit.
“Bounce” is a dangerous mix of afro-house and afro-lamba making for an ultimate club banger.
For the visuals, Rema takes a post-apocalyptic theme, Mad Max style, celebrating feminine beauty yet devoid of anglo infusions. Describing the song, Rema says it’s the celebration of the “magnificent body of the African woman” in wanton abandon.

Curiously, Don Jazzy recently shared “Bounce” almost didn’t see the light of day. According to the veteran producer, he’s stopped making beats for some time and was reluctant to release anything. He made the reveal during his now-viral Blackbox interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Bounce Radio. Obi-Uchendu had asked if he’d make music with his once business partner and musician D’banj.
“(D’Banj and I) have done so much classics that whatever we put out now has to be the sh*t.” Don Jazzy said “It got to a point where… because of the accolades that I got from Mo’Hits, I used to criticize everything. Even (Bounce) that is out now… If not because Rema is persistent, I’m sure I would have said no. I still dey produce… I like making music, I can’t stop.”
