RnB singer R. Kelly pleaded not guilty on Thursday, 6th June 2019, to 11 new s*x-related felonies at his arraignment in Cook County court, Chicago.

The singer was arrested in February and charged with 10 counts of aggravated s*xual abuse involving three girls and one woman. His alleged s*xual abuse of minors took place over roughly 10 years. The accusations started in the late 1990s, of which Kelly pleaded not guilty.

A grand jury filed the new charges stemming from the s*xual abuse and assault of Jerhonda Pace — one of the four women involved. The assault allegedly took place at the time she was less than 18, a minor in 2010. Pace shared her story in a docu-series called “Surviving R. Kelly.”

After Kelly’s indiction in May, his attorney, Steve Greenberg, revealed that the charges “are not really new. They are the same conduct, just charged differently, the same alleged victim, same time frame, same facts.”

According to Greenberg, the new charges relate to one of four alleged victims in an old case the singer faced indictment. The indictment accused Kelly of ejaculating onto the victim’s body and committing acts of s*xual penetration by the use or threat of force.

Among the new 11 count charges, R. Kelly pleaded not guilty to the following.

Four counts of aggravated criminal s*xual assault, which carries a sentence of up to 30 years in prison. This is more than four times as long as the maximum term for each of the 10 counts he was charged with in February.

The new 11-count charges also include two counts of criminal s*xual assault, and five counts of aggravated criminal s*xual abuse, according to court documents.

Greenberg further explained outside the court that the second charge involved the same victim. He said, “It’s just that they’ve just changed what they’ve charged him with.”

When Kelly’s spokesman, Darrell Johnson, was asked how Kelly was coping, he said the singer is upbeat. Adding, he explained, “Initially, he was a little depressed. But I mean, with anything, if someone accuses you of something, you’ll be depressed. He knows the truth.”
