Quench Your Anger With These Easy Tips

Anger, also known as wrath or rage, is an intense emotional state. It involves a strong uncomfortable and hostile response to a perceived provocation, hurt or threat.

People usually see anger as a bad thing. But it is a very normal and valid emotion. However, anger has the potential to descend into something harmful.

If you ever find yourself angry for whatever reason, here are a few things you can do to quench it.

1. Take a walk

Anger usually awakens the need to take some form of action. But instead of spending your energy destroying an object or a relationship, go for a walk. Removing yourself from the trigger will help you calm down, think more clearly, and clear your head.

2. Exercise

When you are angry, your adrenaline levels get spiked up. This fills your body with a lot of energy that can be used aggressively. But instead of acting out on what your instincts are telling you to do, channel that energy into working out. Do some yoga or breathing exercises. Don’t do anything to boost your energy or it will hype up your aggressive energy even more.

3. Change your temperature

Changing your bodily temperature shifts the focus of your brain from anger to stimulus reaction. Try drinking something cold when you’re angry, or take a cold shower. It will surely fizzle out your hot head.

4. Entertain yourself

Distract your brain by watching something fun and lighthearted. No matter how offended you are, you will loosen your grip to rage once you start enjoying yourself.

5. Talk

Talking about what is making you upset is a good way to quench your anger. Although venting can make things worse, talking about the problem can give you more clarity about the situation at hand. It will also make you more objective towards tackling it. If you don’t have anyone you trust enough to talk to, record a voice note to yourself. Talk until you are satisfied, and you will feel a lot better.

You will still need to address the issue so it does not repeat itself. No one will adjust their bad behaviour if they don’t know you are angry, to begin with.
