Qualcomm Announces 100W+ Charging Solution With New Quick Charge 5 Tech

American technology company, Qualcomm has announced a new charging solution, the Quick Charge 5 that offers 100W charging capacity.

While smartphone makers like Oppo, IQOO and Realme have announced phones with 125W charging capacities; they achieved this by special designs to particular phones.

Oppo, for example, was able to bring this incredible improvement by putting several safety measures in place first. Thus, its 125W charging capacity devices came custom made chips, battery management software and many others.

But with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5, smartphone makers can be sure that the company already took care of the battery safety angle. This is why Qualcomm is calling the Quick Charge 5, “the world’s first commercially viable charging platform”.

The company also adds that this tech already comes with battery saver, adaptive capabilities and battery life cycle extension.

In a press release, Ev Roach, VP Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. says, “We work closely with manufacturers to create industry-leading devices that meet consumers’ demand for more immersive and accessible mobile experiences.”

Praising the product, Qualcomm says that Charge 5 will take smartphones from 0% to 50% within five minutes. This makes it 70% more efficient than the Quick Charge 4 solution that the company announced three years ago.

Additionally, Quick Charge 5 is designed to work with both USB-PD and Type-C. It also uses the same ‘footprint’ as the previous 45W charging solution. This means that phone makers will not need to spend too much in order to incorporate the tech into their coming devices.

It seems that Xiaomi phones will be the first to launch the Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 tech. We found a statement from Zhang Lei, Mi Phone vice president and hardware R&D general manager at Xiaomi where he says;

“Xiaomi has always been committed to proactively driving the adoption of new technologies and accelerating the fulfillment of enhanced experiences. In the future, more Xiaomi users will be able to enjoy high-speed, safe and superior charging experiences enabled by Quick Charge 5.”

Likely, we will not have to wait too long before we start seeing smartphones coming with this new charging solution.
