Meanwhile Due to his mother’s almost 70-year reign as the longest-serving queen in British history,
Charles had already established himself as the eldest and longest-serving heir apparent in the country’s history
(he has held the title of Prince of Wales since July 1958).
Charles also gained the title of Duke of Edinburgh following the passing of his father, Prince Philip, in April 2021.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Charles’ wife on the other hand gains the title of “Queen Consort,”
which was given to her by the Queen in February 2022, as a result of the change in the throne.
“When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King,
I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me,”
Queen Elizabeth II said in a statement released on Feb. 5.
“And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort
as she continues her own loyal service.”
Charles and Camilla officially accepted the “honor” the next day, on the Platinum Jubilee, or 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Accession Day.
Meanwhile Prince William, age 40, who is Charles’ eldest son, is now legitimately the next in line to the British throne as the country’s new King.
