New PlayStation Plus subscription lets you play PS2 and PS1 classic games

Sony now allows users to play classic games from PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP if they have the new PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

It turns out that the new Sony PlayStation Plus subscriptions are not only to compete with Xbox Game Pass. With the updated service, gamers get access to multiplayer gaming and some games that they can choose to install or stream.

One of the added subscription tiers is the “Extra,” which gets users about 400 PS4 or PS5 games, depending on the console they are using. It will cost about $14.99 every month and will launch in June 2022.

Meanwhile, the “Premium” comes with 740 games, and as mentioned in the opening, these games include classics from the PSP, PS1, PS2, and PS3 eras. The subscription will set you $17.99 monthly or $119.99 every year.

However, one thing that the gaming company will not do is make its games available on its subscription service on launch day.

“[In terms of] putting our own games into this service, or any of our services, upon their release… as you well know, this is not a road that we’ve gone down in the past. And it’s not a road that we’re going to go down with this new service,” PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said“We feel if we were to do that with the games that we make at PlayStation Studios, that virtuous cycle will be broken. The level of investment that we need to make in our studios would not be possible, and we think the knock-on effect on the quality of the games that we make would not be something that gamers want.”

Games like Death StrandingGod of WarMarvel’s Spider-ManMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesMortal Kombat 11, and Returnal will be available on the Extra and Premium subscription plans at launch.
