PlayStation 5 Will Come By 2020 Holiday Season, Despite Challenges – Sony

In a press release to assure customers and gaming enthusiasts, Sony has said that PlayStation 5 will still make it into the market by 2020 holiday season. However, the Japanese company conceded that the gaming console faces many challenges.

A CNBC report mentions that the major challenge that Sony faces is a drop in its operating profit. The company had projected that its operating profit would fall as low as 35.4 billion Japanese yen (which is $330.7 million).

It had not fallen as low as that by the end of March 2020 quarter, instead, it came in at 46.2 billion yen ($431.4 million). Sony, however, disclosed that when it came to software development, it had not encountered any “major problems”.

Thus, when it commented on when the PlayStation 5 will launch, it had said with confidence:

“Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season.”

In other news, Techradar reported that Sony released a new PlayStation Studios branding for all its exclusive titles. This branding is what the company will use when it launches the gaming console towards the end of 2020.

The new format will have a short video into playing ahead of every PS5 game from Sony Worldwide Studios. It will then feature popular game characters from PlayStation history; something like what Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films usually start with.
