Grammy award-winning singer Pharell Williams is calling for a Federal investigation after police shot and killed his cousin in the US. The singer made the call during the funeral of his deceased cousin, Donovan Lynch.
Donovan, 25, was shot and killed by a police officer in Virginia on March 26th. The shooting occurred after three separate shootings had taken place in the same area.
According to a report by the Virginia Beach Police Department, Lynch was “brandishing a gun”. A gun was later recovered from his body, the police officers said.
Pharell who turned 48th on the day of the funeral wrote on his Instagram about the loss of his cousin, posting his funeral arrangement alongside.
“Thank you God for my 48th lap around the Sun.
This one is symbolic and a first because I had to speak at my cousin’s funeral, and was choked up with emotions. Too many unanswered City and State questions.
Respectfully, I am calling for a Federal investigation.
I also humbly ask that you all keep the family in prayer.
His name is Donovon Wayne Lynch.”

Several artists including Snoop Dogg, Timberland, and Pusha T have commiserated with Williams sending love and praying emojis.
“The Lynch family and the involved officer each deserve a comprehensive and thorough investigation into this incident,” police chief Paul Neudigate said last month.
In a post in March, Pharell Williams had also called for “transparency and honesty and justice” into the investigation of the shooting of his cousin who he described as a “bright light and someone who always showed up for others.”

Donovan Lynch was shot alongside a Deshyla Harris who police say was 29 years old. An independent investigation by a prosecutor and a review by VBPD’s internal affairs department have been ordered.
However, Williams has expressed distrust for the local police saying there are “too many unanswered city and state questions”.
He’s also calling for an investigation at a higher federal level.
