Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde Tests Positive To Coronavirus

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has tested positive to Coronavirus. The governor revealed the news via his Twitter handle. His statement read:

 

I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate. 

 

I have designated Prof Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully. Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe.

Recall that Seyi Makinde came under heavy criticism for going ahead with the South-West zonal unification rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The rally held on the 18th of March in Ibadan.

 

Makinde was chided over his poor decision to hold the  rally despite a confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country and fear of an outbreak.

 

There was also news that some returnees from countries with high cases of the virus were in attendance of the rally.

 

The Governor however apologised after the resounding backlash, reiterating his governments readiness to combat the virus in the event of an outbreak.

 

Oyo currently has 7 cases confirmed with no deaths.
