Ogun state recently launched ‘The Ogun job portal‘ to encourage youth employment in the state. The state also offered 20 applicants employment immediately after they subscribed to the portal. These job seekers got recruited into the Ogun State Government public service. The portal opened on Thursday, 15th August 2019.

They selected the applicants based on their success at an aptitude test conducted. The state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, developed the initiative. Meanwhile, in his statement, Abiodun said:

“We need to engage their creative energies positively to unleash appropriate skill acquisition that would bring about sustainable development for the economy by making them net-employers of labour. I have no doubt that our Gateway State will take maximum advantage of this portal.”

However, the federal government also supported the project. Osinbajo said the federal government has pledged to support the administration for the jobs creation project. The vice president urged the youths to take advantage of opportunities available in the technology, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors.

In addition, he explained that the Nigerian federal government has made funds available for these sectors through the Bank of Industry and Enterprise Bank.

President Osinbajo also advises other states to key into the initiative to create employment opportunities for young people. For example, Lagos State is one state that already helps young entrepreneurs with its Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF). The initiative is an affordable loan program that helps young people access funds for their small businesses.
