Microsoft launched Office Lens for Windows phone devices back in 2014. The camera app allowed users to scan and transcribe text from photos of objects such as whiteboards, printed documents and business cards, saving them to OneNote for access later. Over the next few years, the app was brought to Android, iOS, and Windows 10. Now, Office Lens has been removed from the Microsoft Store.

To be clear, this change isn’t out of the blue. The company updated its support page a couple of months ago to indicate that it was discontinuing Office Lens for Windows.

The dedicated webpage reads:

Certain cloud-based services in Office Lens for Windows, such as saving your pictures to OneDrive; OneNote; Word; PowerPoint; or PDF, will become unavailable after December 31, 2020. You can continue to use other features of the app as installed on your device. In addition, Office Lens for Windows 10 will no longer be available for download from the Microsoft Store as of January 1, 2021. To continue to enjoy all Office Lens features; we recommend downloading and also using the latest version of Office Lens for iOS or Office Lens for Android on your mobile device.

As stated, Office Lens cannot be download from the Microsoft Store anymore; and you won’t be able to save pictures to services such as OneDrive and OneNote. Users have been recommended to transition to Office Lens for Android and iOS, which were both updated within the past couple of days. You can download Office Lens for Android as well as Office Lens for iOS.
