Nothing has updated its debut Ear 1 earbuds with black colours and they will ship on December 13 2021. These new buds still have some transparent plastic features but they will be available in matte black.

They will still retail for the $99 price of the first buds, and it will be sold as a “Limited Edition” version. Nothing hopes to make this “a permanent addition to its range” should demand surge.

Keeping in line with its sustainability goals, the company claims its Ear 1 earbuds are now carbon neutral. But surprisingly the company is accepting payment for these buds in cryptocurrency which is energy inefficient.

The Nothing’s Ear (1) True wireless earbuds have a minimalistic, transparent design that shows the bud’s internals.

Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing describes the Ear (1) as “a breath of fresh air in a cluttered and indifferent market,” radically different in design. The buds will “[set] the tone for our connected digital world to come.”

The Ear (1) True wireless earbuds have a distinct design on both buds, which have different colours of red or white.

The Noise cancellation earbuds were first currently sold via an auction before they went on sale, a limited 100 pairs are up for grabs on July 31st. The Ear (1) True wireless earbuds first sold on August 17th officially across 45 countries.

Powering the buds are 11.6mm drivers, the earbuds battery life has 34 hours when used with the charging case. Four hours battery life when ANC is on and 24 hours when off.

There’s a transparency mode to hear surroundings and a light mode for limited active noise cancellation.

Quite sturdy, these earbuds are IPX4 water-resistant, they can survive rain and water splashes. They have the latest Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, tap and gesture controls that can be toned with a companion app.

Nothing has made finding these minimal Ear (1) True wireless earbuds easy with the “Find my Earbud” mode and an EQ mode for sound. These are accessible with the companion app.

The company now accepts Bitcoin, USD Coin, Dogecoin and Ethereum cryptocurrencies if customers wish to purchase these earbuds. They are currently available online and in select stores across the UK, Canada, US and Japan.
