New Mrs Sri Lanka Beauty Queen Suffers Head Injuries Following Fight For Crown On Stage
Over the weekend, Mrs Sri Lanka Beauty Pageantry was wrought with drama after a melee broke out on stage over the crown. The Beauty Queen who won the pageantry ended up in the hospital with head wounds after the crown was snatched off her head and bestowed on the first runner up.
According to reports, Pushpika De Silva was awarded the title at the Colombo theater on Sunday night, April 5th. The ugly fight broke out when the 2019 Mrs World winner Caroline Jurie ( A Sri Lankan) jumped on stage and grabbed the mic.
She then proceeded to announce that De Silva is a divorcee and thus not eligible to be crowned winner.
“There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced. So, I am taking steps to make the crown go to second place,” Jurie told the shocked crowd.
She then turned around, snatched the gold crown off De Silva’s head, and bestowed it on the 1st runner-up. This led to tears and chaos on stage, local newspapers report.

The winner had to be rushed off to the hospital. There, she was treated for head injuries following the crown-grabbing incident.
Sharing a photo of herself on her Facebook page, De Silva expressed pain and sadness at the turn of events.
“The pain of my skull when my crown was snatched from my head by the world married beauty queen, the pain I felt when I lost the crown …,’’ De Silva wrote.
“I say a true queen is not a woman who snatches another woman’s crown, but a woman who [helps straighten] another woman’s crown!!
“I know you are expecting my response to the unexpected incident that happened. Even though I have a lot to say, I will post only the essential things here,’’ De Silva said.
She also admitted that she and her husband live apart but she’s still married, “I’m not a divorced woman.”
The organisers have re-crowned De Silva the winner after investigations proved she was not divorced but only separated from her husband.
