Apple is doing some good work with this new update. It now adds a warning to the iOS 13 beta 2 that will remind users to unsubscribe from an active subscription when uninstalling an app.
The message will read, “Do you want to keep the subscription for this app?” and then proceed to give you a link to manage the subscription.
The new move is particularly great for people who subscribe to the one-month free subscription on an app. It will be great for users to be reminded to unsubscribe from such app, especially when they are about to delete it.
It is also a great education for those who don’t realise that deleting an app does not mean that they have removed all their data from it.
App store clean-up
Some App Store apps also try to trick users to part with their money by coming off as free. They will then excessively coerce the user into signing up to expensive subscriptions. The user may not even be aware they are subscribed to the service and then forget to unsubscribe.
The fact that a user is uninstalling an app often indicates that they are no longer interested in the app and its subscriptions. The link to manage the subscription is a great way to remind the user to cancel just before uninstalling.
This is definitely in line with Apple’s new resolve to clarify the payment terms of its app services. Apple has also managed to change its app guidelines to make developers more honest about the true cost of subscriptions.
The tech giant also added an extra confirmation step during signup.
Furthermore, Apple has devised a way to make it easy to see and manage active Apple ID subscriptions. The menus have been reorganised to make it easier to detect.
