Netflix Launches A First Of Its Kind Free Android Mobile Plan In Kenya

Netflix has launched the very first kind of free Android mobile plan for subscribers in Kenya. This plan seems to be bait to lure free subscribers to paid customers in the future.

The first in its kind offering in Africa will launch this week according to Netflix. Kenya young population are very tech-savvy and Netflix sees potential in that space.

Interestingly, the free plan has a limited collection of seasonal shows. Only available for Android users, Netflix will allow users to sign in without having to input any payment information.

This isn’t the first time Netflix is offering a free service for its movies catalogue, the company has experimented with YouTube and Snapchat in recent months.

Elsewhere, Android users in faraway Poland are now testing Netflix games, the company made the announcement recently. The streaming firm is trying out these games, for now, Stranger Things 1984 and Stranger Things 3.

The games are not streamed but downloaded, and you won’t be able to play them in the Netflix application. When you open any of the two games, you will be asked for your Netflix sign-in details.

Netflix has followed up on its intention to launch games on its platform after it confirmed the hiring of Mike Verdu.

The California-based company chief operating Greg Peters mentioned during a recent earnings call of the company’s gaming intent. “No doubt that games are going to be an important form of entertainment and an important sort of modality to deepen that fan experience.”

So, yeah if you watch movies from Netflix on your big screen or mobile screens, there is a high chance you are into gaming of some sort. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman might know a thing or two about Netflix gaming intent. He mentioned the streaming service aims to offer games to Netflix subscribers  “within next year.”

 

Maybe we could see this type of offerings for countries with youthful populations like Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa in the coming months. From the look of things, Netflix is testing the waters on free subscription conversion to paid customers.
