NASA fixes Artemis I rocket flaw and prepares for September 17 demonstration

NASA has completed the needed repairs for the launch of the Artemis I Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The highly anticipated rocket launch has now failed twice and the agency is not takin any chances with a rushed launch again,

However, there are only three more windows to launch the rocket this year and the engineers have raced against time to fix up the system for the earliest one, September 23.

On Friday, it said that the faulty seals causing the hydrogen leaks, from the September 3 failed launch, have been successfully replaced. Before the next attempt, NASA will have a tanking demonstration to ensure that the tanks are in peak condition.

Additionally, it lets engineers check the new seals under cryogenic, or supercold, conditions similar to what the real launch would bring about.

“Teams will practice loading liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen in the rocket’s core stage and interim cryogenic propulsion stage and getting to a stable replenish state for both propellants. Teams will confirm the leak has been repaired and also perform the kick-start bleed test and a pre-pressurization test, which will validate the ground and flight hardware and software systems can perform the necessary functions required to thermally condition the engines for flight. Following the test, teams will evaluate the data along with plans for the next launch opportunity,” NASA described.
