Motorola teases stretchy rollable concept phone

Motorola teased a rollable, stretchy phone that can extend and retract at the press of a button. The company debuted the device at Lenovo’s Tech World 2022 event.

In the demo video, the phone’s wallpaper also extends as the device stretches.

Unlike several prototype teases and announcements, this device appears to be in at least working condition. The video even shows battery and network icons. It also shows the seamlessness with which the screen stretches and retracts, even while a video was playing, the mechanism did not even so much as pause it.

According to the additional details we found online, the default display size is about 4 inches but when it rolls, it extends to nearly 6.5 inches. The phone uses a flexible device that is made with flexible OLED panel. Although, it is not clear where the extra inches go when they are ‘tucked in’ but there is still enough time to learn about the phone in the future.

Motorola is also eyeing making rollable laptops as well. For now, there isn’t much information about the Motorola rollable smartphone. Likely, it will be sometime before we eventually see the device enter the market.

With foldable smartphones already becoming a usual sight, rollable smartphones might just be the next big thing in the industry.
