Microsoft tells users to uninstall Windows 11 update causing apps to crash

A Windows 11 update contains so many bugs that it causes apps to crash, and Microsoft has advised users to uninstall it. You know it is serious when another update is not enough to fix the bugs afflicting an OS.

The version of Windows causing the menace is labelled “KB5012643,” and you can check which version of the OS using are using to know if you are among users that need to uninstall or not by doing the following:

  • Select Start > Settings > System > About
  • Then, open Device specifications > System type
  • Got to Windows specification.

According to Microsoft, the problem was the OS’ incompatibility with apps using a specific .NET 3.5 framework, and this is a disaster because several apps use the framework because it is popular and open-source.

As Gizmodo writer Phillip Tracy pointed out, the KB5012643 is optional, and many Windows users are unaware of it. So, you can keep enjoying other versions or uninstall it and install others.

If you are affected, here is a quick guide to uninstalling a Windows 11 update:

  • Open the Start menu and search “Windows Update Settings”
  • Then, select the highlighted option and go to Update history
  • Located the version that you want to uninstall and choose the Uninstall option when you find it
  • Then, you will need to reset your computer.

As always, you are better off leaving an OS update for a few days unless urgent. This will enable other developers to test the software out before you start using it.
