Microsoft Teams Rivals Zoom With Free All Day Video Video Call

Microsoft Team is taking aim for Zoom loyalists with a new all-day video calling option that can be used for free. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that you won’t need a Microsoft Account or the Teams app to join calls. This is because you can join free via a web browser.

Microsoft launched Teams for mobile earlier in 2020 and recently, its friends and family features for the desktop and web. Now, it’s allowing users to create a Teams meeting all day with up to 300 friends and family for free.

This is perhaps is in response to Zoom’s free all video call to allow family and friends to connect virtually for Thanksgiving. Zoom is lifting its own 40-minute limit temporarily for Thanksgiving, and Teams offering similar might just mean both platforms are slugging it out as consumer choice for the holidays.

Competitors like Google Meet and Cisco Webex also have similar restrictions of 60 and 50 minutes limit respectively for calls and it will also be interesting to see how both companies respond.

This comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that people do not travel for Thanksgiving; meaning communication might have to be virtual. In turn, increased reliance on these various platforms. And of course, they will be looking to keep the new customers beyond Thanksgiving.

A Microsoft Account is needed to start the calls by visiting the Teams web link and signing in. After creating a video meeting, share the link with friends and family; then they can join free, without a Microsoft Account.
