Today, Microsoft announced that it’s adding a new ‘news and interests’ feature to Windows 10, and it’s going to be built right into the taskbar. It’s starting to roll out to Windows Insiders on the Dev channel now, assuming that you’re on the rs_prerelease branch.

The feature, essentially, is a news feed. That way, you don’t have to go to the browser or launch apps to get the news that you’re interested in. It’s going to rest in the taskbar, and it will be updated automatically.

Here’s how it works. It’s going to show up automatically, although you can easily remove it by right-clicking on it. Then, you can personalize it. You can say that you want to see “More stories like this” or “Fewer stories like this”. You’ll get updates for news, weather, sports, and more, and news will come from over 4,500 sources such as The New York Times and BBC.

All of this is rolling out in today’s rs_prerelease build in the Dev channel. Microsoft did confirm that it will be an ad-free experience, and that it’s going to evolve over time as determined by Insider feedback. It’s available in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and India, and you need to have Edge Chromium installed for it to work.
