Microsoft Buys Promising Web Based Video Editing App Clipchamp

Web-based video editing app Clipchamp is joining Microsoft’s suite of productivity tools. Founded in 2013, Clipchamp is an in-browser video creation and editing experience.Microsoft acquires Clipchamp to empower creators | Clipchamp Blog

The software integrates the simplicity of a web app with the power of PC graphics processing units (GPU) to create and edit videos. The editing tool ensures that your videos are ready for online publishing.  Also, it supports different aspect ratios for the major social networks.

Clipchamp also joins Microsoft’s cloud productivity platform, M365 to help families, schools and businesses to create and edit school projects, family events, work videos, and other use cases .

Chris Pratley, corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Office media group says,

“As a web app that uses the full power of your PC, Clipchamp is a natural fit to extend the cloud-powered productivity experiences in Microsoft 365 for individuals, families, schools, and businesses”.

Furthermore, Pratley believes that “it’s a great fit for Microsoft Windows,” as the company prepares to usher in the next version of windows. Clipchamp might also just be the default app on Windows 11, given how average Microsoft’s own video editing apps are.
