Mark Zuckerberg says NFTs are coming to Instagram | Here is what it may mean

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that the company will be bringing NFTs to Instagram, although he didn’t go into many details. This is not the first time Meta’s Instagram arm has been linked to the trendy NFT. In 2021, Adam Mosseri, the head of the media-sharing platform, hinted that his team was working on integrating NFTs.

But, the question on a lot of people’s minds is how will this work?

report in January 2022 revealed that both Facebook and Instagram could get features that allow users to use NFT as profile picturesmint NFTs on the platform, and a marketplace.

There are several speculations. None of which Meta and Mark Zuckerberg are willing to clarify at this time.

Since NFTs basically allows you to buy and sell ‘unique’ digital items and keep track of the ‘original’ owner using blockchain technology, the possibilities that could arise from a Meta integration into Instagram are endless.

For example, the platform could create a tech that allows you to trade NFTs or even sell specific posts. Also, in terms of the digital world (known as metaverse), NFTs could be a means for users to claim ownership of items in that virtual reality.

However, Zuckerberg has conceded that there are still many things that need to be put in place before using NFTs on any of his company’s platforms can really be seamless. So, you may not be getting the feature anytime soon. Yet, with the speed at which tech moves these days, it may not take as long as massive developments used to.

Twitter, for example, has a feature that allows users to set an NFT they own as their profile picture. So, that aspect may come to Instagram soon. You can read more about NFTs here: An attempt to explain non-fungible token by The Verge.
