“Mad Men” Star Actor Robert Morse Dies At 90

Robert Morse died at the age of 90, his son, Charlie, confirmed on Wednesday April 20th.

The “Mad Men” actor’s cause of death is not yet known, according to ABC7.

Morse, born on May 18, 1931 in Newton, MA, earned five Tony Award nominations in his career, most notably a win for his role as J. Pierrepont Finch in the 1961 Broadway production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

In the early 1990s, Morse earned Tony and Emmy awards for his portrayal of Truman Capote in “Tru.” The acclaimed actor garnered himself five Emmy nominations for his performance as Bertram Cooper on the AMC series “Mad Men.”

Morse appeared in dozens of episodes as a guest star or as a voice actor, from Fantasy Island to American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. His most well-known television role, though, came with the hit show “Mad Men”.

Morse was nominated for many Emmy Awards for his portrayal of the goofy yet shrewd advertising executive Bertram “Bert” Cooper.

Meanwhile, Morse, who described himself as a “musical comic,” appreciated the chance to perform a musical number on the series, replete with dancers costumed as period-appropriate office personnel.

His final episode saw him drawing on his Broadway skills for a big musical number following his death. He performed a song-and-dance routine to “The Best Things in Life Are Free”, having peacefully died during Neil Armstrong’s 1969 moon landing.

Morse is survived by his wife Elizabeth Roberts and his children, Charlie Morse, Robin Morse, Hilary Morse, Andrea Doven.
