1,117 Lucid Air EVs recalled over faulty wiring

Lucid Motors recall about 1,117 luxury electric sedan vehicles over what industry experts term faulty wiring. While the issue is not exactly life-threatening, it is still worrying because it covers over a thousand of its most recent release, the 22022 Lucid Air.

In an email to The Verge, a Lucid spokesperson explained that the problem was about a manufacturing problem. In fact, the statement paints a picture of the recall appearing to be a better safe than sorry scenario.

“[The] wired connection to the instrument panel may not have been secured properly during assembly. Lucid is not aware of any instances when these components have failed in a vehicle or caused an interruption to the instrument display panel.”

When not properly secured, Lucid explained that the wiring harness could be damaged if it touches the steering column. Since this wire contains the ethernet wiring for the center and left driver displays, it could lead to loss of communications in screens and prevent the speedometer, gear selection indicators, and other in-vehicle notifications from updating.

It is pleading with vehicle owners to ensure that they get their cars inspected and fixed, adding that it will cover the cost incurred.

In February 2022, the electric car company had also issued a recall for some vehicles over a ‘potential suspension issue.’

Besides the recalls, Lucid also faces the issue of supplying cars from its factory due to break in its supply chain and COVID-related problems.
