Social media platforms Snapchat and Facebook-owned Instagram both experienced an outage on Monday, 9th September 2019. Users of both platforms had issues sending messages, a core feature on them. However, other features appeared to work. On Snapchat, you could send snaps and see stories. Meanwhile, on Instagram, you could view your feed and stories and send pictures.
Snapchat sent out a couple of posts on Twitter, saying it was aware that some users were having trouble sending chats. It also said that its team was looking into the issue.
“We’re aware some Snapchatters are having trouble sending Chats. We are looking into it.”
After a while, Snapchat confirmed it was completely back online, and the messages on the social platform started going through.
“The issue has been resolved. If you’re still having trouble, please let us know!”
During the downtime, however, Down Detector saw more than 25,500 reported issues with Snapchat. The outage tracking site also saw 8,500 reports on Instagram. The problems reported were experienced globally, according to Down Detector’s live coverage maps.
Facebook also appeared to join the outage part. According to Down Detector, Canadian users reported issues using the social platform. At the time of reporting, the website received around 3,000 reports of Facebook issues. However, Facebook didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
