Lighten Dark Elbows And Knees With These Natural Ingredients

Most people have their elbows and knees looking darker than the rest for their body and sometimes it’s a source of worry and embarrassment.

 

 

It’s easy for the elbows and knees to become dark because of sun exposure, friction, heat, and sometimes, hormonal imbalance.

 

These parts of your body do not contain any oil so they can easily get dried and dark due to lack of moisture. However, they’re ways to make these areas even with the rest of your body and this article will show some of them.

Baking soda and lemon

Lemon contains vitamin C and antioxidants that can brighten darkened areas. Baking soda on its part is a natural toner.

How to use

Cut a lemon into 2 halves and smear a healthy amount baking soda on its surface. Rub your elbows and knees for 1 minute and let it sit for 15 minutes and then wash off with warm water. Repeat at least three times a week to see results.

Potato

Potato has catecholase enzymes that help to lighten darkened areas of the body.

How to use

Grate a potato and extract its juice and apply on the affected areas. Leave it on your skin for 15 minutes, then rinse it with water. You can also rub a sliced open potato on your elbows and knees and let it sit for 10-15 mins before you wash off.

Turmeric

Tumeric is a natural go-to for remedying darkened areas and spots. It contains a particular agent called curcumin that impedes the production of excess melanin which causes darkened knees and elbows.

Add a tablespoon full of turmeric with a spoon of milk. Apply on the knees and elbows and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse out with warm. You can add a bit of honey to the mixture for a better effect.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is an essential oil packed with fatty acids and vitamin E that can repair damaged skin and keep it moisturized.

How to use

After each shower or bath apply coconut oil your dark elbows and knees. Massage gently for 2-3 minutes until the oil is absorbed into the skin. You can also add 1/2 tsp of fresh lemon juice to 1 tsp of coconut oil and gently massage your knees and elbows for a few minutes
