LG To Release New Affordable 5G Smartphone Series To Succeed The G Series

LG Electronics has announced that it will be launching a new 5G smartphone series that will not bear its trademark “G” name and promises that it will be high-end yet affordable.

While many tech blogs have speculated that the new LG 5G phones will be coming in May 2020, the company does not confirm this. GizChina mentions that the smartphones will bring top-tier features while staying affordable. Also stating that it will be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S20.

If this statement is true, it implies that the starting prices will not exceed $1000 (NGN366,633). Also, additional information indicates that it will come with either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 or 765G processor.

This is also good news as Qualcomm describes Snapdragon 765 as being able to bring 5G and AI together. It also improves user experiences like breakthrough entertainment, intelligent multi-camera capabilities, and support for all-day battery life.

Additionally, Snapdragon 765G promises a further 20% boost to graphics performance. Qualcomm selects ‘speed binned’ chips for the 765G, meaning they can handle slightly higher GPU clocks and a CPU peak speed boost to 2.4GHz. This is why it is called ‘gaming processor’.

There are rumours that these coming LG series may be called “LG Chocolate series”, but the company as not said anything in this regard. Further speculations are that the first product under the new series will have a 6.67″ OLED display and 4000mAH battery.

LG G series has so far brought consumers many smartphones as well as tablets and smartwatches. In recent times, the company released the LG G8 ThinQ, LG G8s ThinQ and LG G8x ThinQ.

With this latest information, it seems like LG G8x ThinQ will be the last smartphone under the G series name. Meanwhile, it also announced the LG V60 ThinQ, commonly referred to as the LG V60 in February 2020. The LG V60 series support 5G connectivity and some also support dual screens as well.
