Knowing how to contour the face is a technique that is still a mystery to some makeup lovers.

Where to apply bronzer, what to highlight and where not to are some of the questions frequently asked. Contouring can be a tricky task, especially if you are a newbie, but we can help you nail it like a pro.

First things first; figure out your face shape. Once you know what face shape you have, all you have to do is work that bronzer and highlighter to make your face look toned and chiselled.

So, without much ado, let’s get into how you should be contouring according to your face shape.

Square

Square face shape has the forehead, jawline and cheekbones of the same width. Add length to your face by applying bronzer on the outer corners of your forehead and jawline and highlight your cheekbones, centre of the forehead, nose tip and chin.

Round

If your face appears round with a curved jawline and almost the same length and width, then you have a round face shape. Apply bronzer to your hairline and jawline and highlighter on your forehead, chin and cheekbones.

Diamond

Since you have striking cheekbones and a sharp jawline, focus less on contouring and more on highlighting. Highlight your cheekbones, chin and forehead area and just add a subtle bronzer below the cheekbones, and you’re done.

Heart

Got a wide forehead, cheekbones and a narrow jawline? Add width to the lower part of your face by applying bronzer on the centre of your jawline to make it appear shorter and less pointed and on the temples and under cheekbones to take some width off your upper face. Highlight the tip of your nose, forehead and cupid’s bow.

Long, oblong, oval and rectangle faces have more length than width. Swipe your contour stick under your cheekbones and on the outer edges of your forehead. Use the highlighter on your highest points like cheekbones, brow bone, bridge of nose and chin. Blend and you’re ready to go.
