Learn About The $5 Billion Lawsuit Accusing Google Chrome Of Tracking Users In Incognito Mode

A law firm in the US has dragged Google to court in California after it accused the search engine giants of deceiving Chrome users while they browse in Incognito Mode. The law firm, Boies Schiller & Flexner is demanding nothing less than $5 billion in damages.

The Incognito Mode in Chrome browsers offers users the platform to surf the internet without it saving their search history. It adds that “Cookies and site data” as well as “Information entered in forms” would not be saved. But it also warns that users’ activities may be visible to websites they visit, employer or school or their internet service provider.

However, what Chrome does not tell users is that their data is shared with Google even on, Incognito Mode. This is what the lawsuit is accusing the company of. It claims that Chrome intentionally lures its customers into a false sense of security while exploiting this trust. A Business Insider report claims that the browser software shares the website users visit via Google Analytics and Google Ad Manager.

For now, many of the details of this case are still not clear. However, a Google representative, Jose Castaneda said regarding the lawsuit:

“We strongly dispute these claims and we will defend ourselves vigorously against them,” a Google spokesman told Business Insider. Incognito mode in Chrome gives you the choice to browse the internet without your activity being saved to your browser or device.

“As we clearly state each time you open a new incognito tab, websites might be able to collect information about your browsing activity during your session”.

The complaint further revealed that the information that Chrome shares with Google has far-reaching implications. It can expose the private interests of users and those of their friends as well. The lawyers are demanding $5,000 in damages per user violated in California.
