Following the directive given by the federal government, the Lagos State commenced ease of lockdown today May 4th.
According to the directive, corporate offices and can resume but will have only 60 percent of their workers present. Also, only level 13 upward of Government Staff are to resume.
Public transporters are to carry only 60% of their transport capacity. The use of facemasks has also been made mandatory.
However, albeit not surprising, Lagosians trooped out en masse today to resume businesses, disregarding the social distancing rule as they went about their activities.
Buses were reportedly packed full to the brim. Other reports showed large crowds of people in front of banks and other corporate offices clustered together, flagrantly breaking the social distance rule. Despite the rule, some persons were also pictured without facemasks, further increasing the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
In a video posted by OAP Daddy Freeze, large numbers of persons were trying to gain entrance into a bank building, pushing and shoving against themselves while at it.
Dear Nigerian govt, I hope and pray that you don’t live to regret this move of opening up the system way too early.
I believe that your intentions might be pure, but our citizens are so unruly and disorderly. This just looks like a disaster waiting to happen.😢

Currently, at 1107 confirmed cases, Lagos remains the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria. With the growing number of cases in the state and the obvious flout of social distancing rules meant to help flatten the curve, concerns that the ease of the lockdown may be premature are being raised.
There’s also fear that Lagos may see an increase of cases following the reopening of business, which may cripple the already overwhelmed health system.
