While the crux of reality TV shows is to outdo the next in the outlandish and bizarre, some really do the unexpected.
This is the case of new TV series, “Labor of Love” on Fox TV series with a curious goal. Fifteen men are going to compete to claim the ultimate prize: impregnating 41-year-old Kristy Katzmann.
Sounds extreme doesn’t it? Well, we feel the same as well. Hosted by “S*x and The City Star” Kristin Davis, the show is going to “skip the dating and go straight to baby-making.”
A journalist, Stuart Heritage gave a concise summary. “Labor of Love is a dating show where the prize is a real-life flesh-and-blood baby. The entire show exists to help one woman choose a candidate to impregnate her. It’s a mating show, not a dating show. Love, as we’re told, is optional.”
Fifteen men will be living in a home together. They will also take turns courting and sleeping with Kristy in hopes of being the one to impregnate her. The baby, in this reality show, is the prize.
The show will also feature parents of the contestants trying to upsell their sons to Kristy. As the producers put it:
“appearances by the competitors’ own parents. The parents explaining how good these men would be at fatherhood is more notable for the simple curiosity factor than for any sort of real imparting of information.”

As for 41yr old Kristy, she’s recently divorced and does very well for herself professionally. However, she’s never had kids, and obviously don’t mind unusual ways of getting pregnant.
She recently sat down for an interview with Fox. In it, she spoke about coming on the show because she felt like her biological clock was ticking.
“I had just turned 40 at the time and I had just gotten out of a relationship. I was trying to navigate dating. Knowing that I still wanted to start a family and that time was definitely not on my side”
She was also concerned that men would not be interested in “Labor of Love” given the absurdity of it.
“One of my biggest fears going in was wondering if there are actually men out there who are ready for this. And I think we really tested them off the bat by putting them through the whole sperm analysis pretty much moments after I met them.”
Apparently, there’s more work in dating 15 men than one. Kristy had something to say about it “Also, it might sound like a total dream to date 15 incredible men at, once but it’s actually super overwhelming. I think it really requires you to stand in your own presence and really know what you want.”
However, she took her work seriously and tried to make a connection with each man.
“I think one of the things that’s special [in this show] is every time I sent a guy home, I had a real conversation with him. There’s this whole ghosting culture happening with dating right now and I think it’s because people don’t want to have these conversations because they’re hard. I had real relationships with these men.”
“Labor of Love” premiered on March 21st on Fox TV and airs at 8 pm Central Time. It has already topped ratings on ABC station days after it hit the screens.
