Samantha Diaz known by the stage name Just Sam has emerged the winner of American Idol Season 18 finale.
American Idol came to a close on Sunday 17th May 2020, with the first-ever virtual finale.
Longtime host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan crowned the season 18 winner during a live (and remote!) virtual episode.
Finalists performed one last time for America’s vote to decide who would be the next winner. At the end of Sunday’s American Idol finale, Ryan Seacrest announced the 2020 winner.
Just Sam became the show’s first-ever “at home” winner, beating out finalists Julia Gargano, Arthur Gunn, Dillon James, Louis Knight, Francisco Martin and Jonny West.
“My grandmother has been saying that she doesn’t believe that people like us can have their dreams come true. This is proof to her
I kept on pushing, kept on singing, and look where it’s brought me. I hope to inspire all the little girls who believe their dreams can’t come true. Anyone can do it.” She said.

This season’s show was unlike no other. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, contestants were sent home at the Top 20 phase.
Just Sam captured the hearts of America and the judges from the very beginning with her energy and soulful voice.
The show made history last month as contestants and judges broadcasted remotely amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Given the circumstances, judges were forced to adjust their tactics.
For the first time in competition show history, American Idol has broadcasted a full remote episode from over 40 locations, with all contestant performances shot on their phones.
