Jussie Smollett Makes First Red Carpet Since Hate-crime Scandal Ahead Of His Trial

Hollywood actor Jussie Smollett has made his first red carpet appearance since his alleged staged hate-crime scandal.

The actor was photographed attending the screening of his upcoming film “B-Boy Blues” in Harlem Friday night, making it the first time he’d be photographed since he allegedly staged a racial and homophobic fuelled attack on himself in January 2019.

The film, based on a 1994 James Earl Hardy’s same-named novel will also be Smollet’s directorial debut.

The actor also took to his Instagram stories to speak effusively about the love he received for the movie.

“To see all the love for the film is crazy beautiful,” he explained. “More to come while I catch up but to everyone who came out last night with so much love and community… on behalf of everyone @bboybluesfilm, thank you.”

B-Boy Blues’, a staple story within the LGBTQ+ community, follows the relationship of 27-year-old journalist Mitchell Crawford. Mitchell and 21-year-old bicycle messenger Raheim Rivers meets at a gay bar in Greenwich Village during the summer of 1993.

The actor further added that the future of the film is dicey as it hasn’t been accepted on any platform yet. He however said they’re still looking for “a home” so that “everyone can see it.”

Smollett will be making another public appearance this November, this time in court to stand trial for allegedly staging his own attack.

The empire star since January 2019 has been entangled in a hate crime scandal when he alleged he was beaten up by two white men in ski masks as he strolled to get food. According to him, they tied a noose around his neck, yelled racial slurs at him, and screamed “This is a MAGA country,” as they fled the scene.

Further reports however allege that the men were actually black and that Smollett may have staged it himself.

It was also later alleged that Smollett, who’s both black and gay paid the two men $3,500 to stage the “attack.”

His lawyers had tried to get his trial dismissed citing that it contravenes his human rights and he’s also done community service and paid a $10,000 bond. However, the judge was not moved. His trial will commence on November 29.
