The union made the decision at the conclusion of the National Executive Council meeting,

which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, October 13, until early Friday, October 14,

and was attended by members of the union.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action

after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.

The Court had ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling

ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.

Meanwhile the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) President, Emmanuel Osodeke, had said on Monday, 10th October, that the union is hopeful that the protracted strike will soon come to an end and that there is now “light at the end of the tunnel”;

Osodeke made this statement during a meeting with the House of Representatives leadership, which was chaired by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

He said;

“Please, let all of us work together to put a beautiful end to this end to this thing we have started so that every Nigerian will be proud that we have universities we can be proud of.

Once again, I want to thank you. I also extend our appreciation to the president for intervening, I want to appeal that in the future, we should not allow strikes to linger. The strike should not go beyond two days.

For the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.

We say congratulations to all the Nigerian Students for holding out this long, Hopefully this will be the end of Asuu strikes.
