Jimin Of K-Pop Band BTS Hospitalised For Appendicitis & COVID-19

Jimin of the South Korean boy band BTS has been hospitalized with acute appendicitis. His management company disclosed the information on Monday 31st January.

The 26-year-old singer and dancer was taken in for emergency surgery on Sunday 30th January after experiencing sudden abdominal pain.

He also had a mild sore throat and tested positive for COVID-19 while in the hospital.

A statement by BTS’ agency Big Hit Music said: “The surgery was successful, and Jimin is currently recuperating after his procedure. The statement also noted that Jimin was already making a “speedy recovery” from the novel coronavirus.

Jimin, whose full name is Park Ji-min, will receive several days of postoperative care as well as inpatient treatment for COVID-19, Big Hit added.

The news comes less than two months after the K-pop group announced they were taking a break from music.

“BTS is planning to take a second official extended period of rest since their first in 2019 after they complete their official scheduled events – BTS Permission To Dance On Stage LA and the 2021 Jingle Ball Tour,” Big Hit Music said in a statement shared to Twitter in December.

“BTS stayed active in order to engage with fans in 2020 and 2021 amidst the COVID-19 situation. The band achieved dazzling results to cement themselves as top global artists.”

The statement also revealed that the group’s members, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook planned to spend the holiday season with their families for the first time since their debut in 2013.

In February 2021, BTS topped the list of 2020 Most Tweeted About Musicians in the U.S for the fourth year in a row. The band’s hit songs “Dynamite”, “ON,” “Black Swan” and “Life Goes On” was the top four most tweeted about tracks.
