Popular American rapper Shawn Corey Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, clocked 50 on 4th December 2019. To celebrate his 50th birthday, the music mogul released his entire discography to Spotify.

Spotify then announced the good news on Twitter.

Jay-Z grew up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York. His mother Gloria raised him and his three siblings single-handedly in the notorious Marcy House projects.

From winning his first Grammy in 1998 for his hit single “Hard Knock Life” to marrying Beyoncé in April 2008, the Brooklyn-based rapper has hit plenty of milestones in his half-century.

In 2018, Jay-Z released the song “718” about his relationship with Beyonce. In the song, he reflects on when they first met during the 2000 MTV Spring Break Festival in Cancun.

Beyonce opened up to Seventeen Magazine in 2007 about what happened when she first met Jay-Z in 1999.

She said:

“I was 18 when we first met, 19 when we first started dating. There was no rush — no one expected me to run off and get married.”

In June this year, Jay-Z became the first hip-hop artist to attain a billionaire status. This was revealed by Forbes recently having totalled his fortunes conservatively to $1 billion.

The hip-hop mogul’s wealth encompasses investments made in liquor, an art collection, real estate and also stakes in companies like Uber and Tidal.

Forbes’ Zack O’Malley Greenburg writes:

“Less than a decade later, it’s clear that Jay-Z has accumulated a fortune that conservatively totals $1 billion, making him one of only a handful of entertainers to become a billionaire—and the first hip-hop artist to do so.”

A big happy birthday to this icon who has made a mark in music.
