American rapper Jay-Z and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey have launched their collaborative crypto academy known as The Bitcoin Academy. The project focuses on crypto-related financial literacy, and it is held at the Marcy Houses public housing complex in Brooklyn, New York City.
The public housing complex was Jay-Z’s childhood home; the academy classes are free with both in-person and online options to attend. For now, the instructors are Lamar Wilson and Najah J. Roberts, both of whom are bitcoin influencers.
The aim of the project is to provide knowledge to residents of the musician’s childhood home while removing some of the barriers that would prevent them from learning about bitcoin and finance.

Most of the classes, or the beginner ones, are quite basic, with “What is Cryptocurrency?” and “What is Blockchain?’ being part of them. As Najah J. Roberts pointed out, they aim to teach people how bitcoin works and why they should care about it. They also plan to cover ways to build a financial future.
This is not the first time that Jay-Z and Dorsey are coming together for a project. Anyone familiar with Dorsey’s taste in music can confirm that he loves the artist. In 2021, the Twitter co-founder bought a large share of the rapper’s Tidal streaming service. They also share a passion for crypto literacy and once pooled bitcoin holdings to sponsor a trust that will promote using crypto in Africa and India.
