Instagram has now introduced a new alert system that will let users know that their accounts are being deleted. This is after the said user may have violated the rules of the social media platform. The alert will show the user the history of comments, stories or posts that it had to remove from the account.

The new Instagram alert will also tell the user why the post was removed. Instagram on its page says, “If you post something that goes against our guidelines again, your account may be deleted.”

However, the best is that Instagram will let accused users appeal the moderation decisions directly via the alert. The users will no longer need to go to Instagram’s web help page to appeal a blocking decision. Instagram has made it so that users can appeal contents like removed hate speech and n*de images.

In essence, the purpose of this is for accountability and fairness. The users will be able to clarify why they are getting removed from the app and it will help them brace themselves for it. The app has certain rules on n*dity and s*xuality that it needs users to adhere to.

Instagram and n*dity

There have been issues around Instagram taking off some images that were controversial, like breastfeeding photos. Their policy does not exactly say they are against these images. Therefore, appealing the decision will make it easier for Instagram to not unfairly take down these posts.

Instagram now also bans users who repeatedly violate their policies for a period of time. It looks to get rid of some accounts that post violating content onto the app.

Speaking on n*dity, earlier in the year, a group of young women protested some of Instagram’s parent company, Facebook’s rules on n*dity. They protested n*de in front of Facebook’s New York headquarters to question the company’s policy on n*dity. They believe they should be able to express themselves by showing their n*ked bodies online.
