Instagram says Direct Messages (DMs) is now available to all its users on the desktop-browser application. The feature is still being rolled out and users will begin to gradually see the changes. This is after Instagram had done an initial test involving a “small percentage” of users.

Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri had confirmed the tests via his Twitter page in January 2020 following reports that the feature was on the way.

The social media website also received some updates to more closely mimic DMs on the app. This includes the emoji keyboard and a gallery view for photos and videos.

According to Instagram, this desktop Direct Messaging will have all of the mobile app’s features. Users will be able to view their inbox and also create new individual and group chats. The desktop version will also let Users reply to Instagram stories and send photos they’ve copied to the clipboard. Desktop notifications can be enabled for Direct Messaging as well.

This is probably good news for businesses and brand managers as they will now be able to reply to direct messaging quicker without having to access the feature using a mobile device.

To know if you have received the feature, go to on any web browser on your laptop or computer. If you have gotten the Direct Messaging feature on desktop, you’ll see the DM icon on the top-right corner.
