Instagram has announced some changes targeted at making streaming saving live videos easier. The biggest of the changes is that streamers are no longer limited to 60-minute broadcasts, now, they can go live for up to four hours.

The feature is to be available to all Instagram users worldwide, so long as they have no history of IP or policy violations. Also, users will now be able to view their own live streams in their private archives. This will work in a similar manner to Stories and Posts, for up to 30 days after they air.

Then, they can choose to download the content and post it anywhere else. Instagram is also adding a ‘Live Now’ section to IGTV where its users can watch live content at that moment.

The company explains that the change is targeted at helping those who’ve had to pivot to virtual events, like yoga and fitness instructors, teachers, musicians, artists, and activists, etc.

Instagram is probably using live videos to keep people in the app for longer. Earlier in September 2020, Instagram began rolling out badges in Instagram Live to an initial group of over 50,000 creators. The creators will test the feature by selling the badges at price points of $0.99, $1.99, or $4.99.

These badges will help their fans’ comments stand out in busy streams. These badges will allow fans to support their favorite creator, also giving them prestige on the creator’s list of badge holders.
