Iconic Musician Victor Olaiya Laid To Rest Three Months After His Death
The Family of Victor Olaiya has buried the veteran musician on 7th May 2020 at Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi Lagos.
The music legend died on the 12th of February 2020 at the age of 89 at the Lagos Teaching Hospital.
His demise was announced by his record label, Evergreen Music Company.

The legendary musician’s burial ceremony was a simple one with only a few friends and family members in attendance.
Olaiya was born on December 31, 1930, in Calabar, Cross River State. He was the 20th child of a large family of 24.
In 1951, he passed the school certificate examination and got admission to Howard University in the United States to study Civil Engineering.
However, Olaiya opted instead to pursue a career in music, much to the chagrin of his parents.
He played with the Sammy Akpabot Band and also led and played the trumpet for the Old Lagos City Orchestra. Later, he joined the Bobby Benson Jam Session Orchestra.
In 1954 Olaiya formed his own band, The Cool Cats, playing highlife music. His band played at the state ball when Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom visited Nigeria in 1956.
Also, he played at the State’s Ball when Nigeria became independent in 1960 and again when Nigeria became a republic in 1963.
He is survived by his many wives, children, and grandchildren.
