The rapper turned actor was cast to star alongside Jack Black in Sony’s comedy-drama “Oh Hell No”. However, he quit over refusal to get vaccinated which is a requirement on set.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “producers on Oh Hell No made the request that cast on the project would need to be vaccinated”.

Ice Cube and his representatives have declined to comment on the issue. Sony Studios have also not released any statement on his exit from the production.

While Ice Cube have not publicly made any anti-vax statement, he expressed scepticism during the height of the outbreak last year.

“Doctors of the world: Stop lying about the Coronavirus. The people needs absolute TRUTH,” he wrote in June 2020 tweet.

However, he’s campaigned for mask-wearing on his Twitter and has been publicly pictured wearing masks.

The 52-year-old actor had inked the deal to star alongside Black in June. Production was to kick off fully this winter in Hawaii with Kitao Sakurai, director of Netflix’s “Bad Trip” at the wheels. “Oh Hell No” revolves around Sherman ( Jack Black’s character). He falls in love with the mother of his friend Will( meant to be Ice Cube) much to his disapproval.

Black who doubles as a producer on the film alongside his co-producer Matt Tolmach has also declined comment on the development.

Sony is reportedly re-casting to fill the role Ice Cube left.
