Huawei’s HarmonyOS 2.0 Will Replace Windows 10 In Its Coming PCs

According to speculations surrounding Huawei’s coming PCs, the Chinese telecommunication giant will use its own operating system, HarmonyOS, instead of Windows 10.

A tech blog, Huawei Central, had broken the news in a recent report. The writer claims to have gotten the tip from a ‘well known’ source. It added that the PCs will first target ‘domestic markets’.

Ever since the US placed a ban officially on Huawei, the company has started charting its own path. As early as August 2019, about three months after the ban, it had announced its personal operating system.

The company had described HarmonyOS as a versatile software. Thus, it was designed to work on many devices including; smartphones, smart TVs, PCs, cars, and smartwatches.

It had first powered Honor Vision series (a line of smart TVs) and a Huawei Router.

However, since its launch, Huawei has not used it to power any of its smartphones that came after. It had settled to build them, instead, around Google’s Android software.

This recent news may point towards Huawei’s projection for the HarmonyOS which is also called Hongmeng OS. Earlier, the company had released a roadmap for how it will roll out the operating system.

The plan was to release it on ‘domestic PC’ in 2020 as well as on smartwatches and cars. There is mention that it will be available on more devices in 2022.

Also, Huawei is definitely not a newcomer to the industry. The company had been providing computing services to many customers using its Kunpeng processor. It operates this line of trade under the HiSilicon brand.

Its MateBook range of PCs can also confirm that the tech firm knows what it is doing.

Thus, if the reports are anything to go by, Huawei may just be reducing the number of people using Microsoft’s popular Windows 10 operating system. As it targets the large Chinese market primarily, this might even mean more than we can see now.

Despite this major leap in the direction of freedom from American brands, the company’s CEO believes it still has a long way to go. In a recent interview, Ren Zhengfei conceded that it will take it up to three centuries to catch up with Google and Apple in the software front.
