Without the usual fanfare, Huawei announced the P30 Pro New Edition that supports Google services and brings improved specifications as well. See details of how Huawei is suddenly able to use Google’s services despite the US trade ban.
Since the now popular US ban preventing Huawei and Honor phones from using Google Mobile Services, Huawei has been struggling to make its own way. Despite its many impressive strides, it seems it has still been unable to escape Google’s shadow.
The Chinese company had launched its own services called the Huawei Mobile Services; and also created its own applications store, AppGallery. In addition to this, it made its own operating system which is known as the HarmonyOS.
Yet most of its smartphone releases since the ban have been built with Google’s open-source Android software; not its own OS. Its inability to access the popular Google Play store and other Android services may have been a deterrent to many potential buyers. The Verge says: “Huawei’s smartphone shipments outside of China dropped by 35 percent in the first quarter of [2020]”.

Now, re-releasing P30 Pro, which Huawei tags as “New Edition”, the company advertises that it has access to Google services. On its German website, the company said that the new device allows users to “use top-apps as usual,” “use Android as usual,” and receive “security updates as usual.”
Additionally, the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition will come with Android 10 pre-installed and new colour variations. The version of the smartphone advertised on the website has a 256GB internal storage and an 8GB RAM. Originally, Huawei P30 Pro had three storage versions: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
It is not clear if it will be available for sale only in Germany or also in the United States. Likely, Huawei will clear the air when it officially launches it on 1st June 2020.
However, it is important to note that the original Huawei P30 Pro was the last phone the company released before the US ban. Thus, the ban may not cover this ‘new edition’.
