Huawei recently confirmed that its next flagship Mate 30 Pro phone will launch on 19th September with the rest of the Mate 30 series. But what software will it run?

The company posted a short teaser video on Twitter about the upcoming Mate 30 series. According to Huawei, in an event tagged “Rethink Possibilities”, the company will unveil the Mate 30 series in Munich, Germany.

But what does Huawei have in store for its phone users? This question has been on everyone’s lips since the new Huawei phones won’t ship with core Google services in them. This is because US companies are still banned from doing business with Huawei. Verge called last year’s Mate 20 Pro “the best phone America can’t get”. However, the flagship phones from Huawei this year may induce a much different reaction.

To that effect, the launch will see people focussed on how the company will manage to work around the caveat in its software. The company earlier stated that it is already building its own Play Store alternative. It is also reportedly working on a mapping service API for third-party developers. In addition to this, Huawei recently revealed its own operating system, HarmonyOS. Nevertheless, it downplayed its potential as an Android replacement for smartphones. The Mate 30 series will still likely be based on open-source Android.

Software aside, Huawei’s recent flagship phones have all had impressive hardware. The Mate 30 Pro is likely to follow in that tradition. It should make use of the Kirin 990 processor, which Huawei will announce this week at the IFA trade show in Berlin.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro rumoured specifications

Unverified leaks indicate that the Mate 30 Pro will feature a large circular quad-camera module and a “waterfall” display with extremely curved edges.

The phone might also come with a 6.71-inch touchscreen display. An octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 985 processor will power it. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will run on Android and is expected to be powered by a 4,200mAh battery. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro supports proprietary fast charging.

As far as the cameras are concerned, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will pack a 40-megapixel primary camera and a second 40-megapixel camera. It is expected to sport a camera on the front for selfies.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro tipped to be a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that will accept Nano-SIM cards.

Connectivity options on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will possibly include Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). Sensors on the phone will also possibly include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass or magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and a fingerprint sensor. Finally, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro supports face unlock.
