Millions of people send billions of messages on the app on a daily basis. This means that it is easy for others to be quite annoying on the app.


WhatsApp Groups and the barrage of messages that you’ll leave unread is one of the most annoying things about the app. Be it “good morning” messages, silly jokes fake news, and unsolicited videos and images all are major ingredients of WhatsApp Groups.


Some users find many groups useless but can’t escape it because when they leave they get added back.


Interestingly, you can actually stop people from adding you to WhatsApp Groups without your consent. The step-by-step guide below will help you stop those numerous annoying WhatsApp notifications and save yourself from being forced into groups you don’t want to be a part of:

Step 1:

Go to the icon and open the app on your smartphone

Step 2:

Tap on the Settings tab then scroll until you see the Accounts tab

Step 3:

Tap on Accounts tab, choose the Privacy option.

Step 4:

When open, find Groups whilst in privacy.

Step 5:

Now you should see three options: Everyone, My contacts and My contacts except

Step 6:

Here you can decide on who you prefer to give the power to add you to any Group. You can select the last option and tick all your contacts with the option in the top right of your screen then tap on the big green check circle to finish the setup.

Step 7:

If you choose to not allow any contact add you to WhatsApp groups, then group admins will have to send you a private invite to a group before you’re able to join.

Step 9:

If you don’t want to be added to that group through a private message, then you can decline the invitations as they come.
