Instagram recently updated its iPhone application to leverage the new dark mode support feature in iOS 13. This feature makes scrolling through your feed and tapping through Insta Stories easier on the eyes. It is especially helpful to those who aren’t fans of Instagram’s bright white borders and colour palettes.

However, Instagram does not let you toggle the dark mode option on or off within the app itself. It is quite different from Twitter’s pre-iOS 13 night feature. This one would have to sync with your iPhone’s system-wide settings. It’s no surprise as most iOS app makers are adding dark mode support for the first time.

Nevertheless, switching to dark mode on Instagram is not as tasking as you’d imagine, even without the toggle button.

Dark mode has become quite popular in recent years. This feature blackens interfaces, which in turn reduces strain on your eyes. The feature also saves your device’s battery life. As a result, major tech companies like Google and Apple have started releasing system-wide dark modes across their operating system.

Also, app developers are updating their apps with support for dark modes. Dark mode support is reportedly now rolling out to the Instagram iOS app, so make sure you’re running the latest version of that app.

It’s great that Instagram is giving its users more visual options, even though the app is joining other social platforms at a later date. This update promises a more improved Instagram experience, and we take their word for it. If you are keen on trying the new dark mode feature on Instagram, the update is now available on the App Store.

There is no word yet on when the feature is coming to Android. Until then, take a look at how to enable dark mode on Instagram’s iPhone app.

  • If you already use iOS 13 and have dark mode turned on at the system level, the Instagram app will auto-adjust to dark mode.
  • Make sure you’re running iOS 13 on your iPhone.
  • Open Settings on your device.
  • Then go to Display and Brightness, and tap Dark.
  • Install the Instagram app (or update it to the latest version) on your device and open it.
  • Instagram will, by default, automatically respond to your device’s system setting.

That’s it! Enjoy the new feature.
